Spammers, you suck, you’re wasting my time, and yours…

178 comments, only 5 approved, all the rest have been spam. Honestly, do I need to shut down comments on all my posts to avoid the hassle of marking all this crap as spam? There is this perverse, and seemingly hopeless, thought that perhaps someone might want to comment on the odd post I do here, so I don’t want to shut it all down, but it’s a pain to have my inbox flooded with comment notifications, just to find that they’re all spam. BTW spamming bastards, this site’s comments are regulated. I WILL NOT POST YOUR SPAM!!!

Anyway, just had to say…

You know, I think I’ve written about spam at least twice before. It seems I’ll never learn and neither will they…

Where we’re at today…

So I’m behind 2 strips on my original idea of a strip every other day. I’m thinking that I need a new way of approaching this. As much as I’ve had some fun doing the strips, there’s something not quite right about how they feel. I’m taking a week to try something different. Depending on how that goes, it might set a new tone and direction for “The Lousy Poet.”

So The Dark Knight opened this weekend. It looks pretty good and is getting crazy awesome reviews. But also with that come the obligatory new trailer releases. The two that have come to light are the Terminator:Salvation trailer and the Watchmen trailer. I watched the Terminator and thought, meh. On the other hand, the Watchmen trailer has me chomping at the bit to see this movie. I don’t know whether it was just the visuals, the fact it’s based on such a celebrated comic, the fact they used a Smashing Pumpkins song for the background, or a combo of all the above, but this trailer had me psyched. And seeing as the last trailer that looked this visually cool to me, 300, was by the same director and turned out to be one of my faves, I have high hopes. Now I just have to scrounge up the cash to get a copy of Watchmen to read before this hits theatres.

It’s funny to me how spammers target one particular post in a blog with over 100 of them. For three days I was getting 10+ comments on one post, which were all spam. So I turned off the comments to that one post and suddenly, no more spam comments. Funny.

So I was excited to see that Dave Mckean finally has an official website. You can check out the link under the blogroll. There’s not much there yet, but I look forward to seeing what all he posts. Not to mention that there’s a link for an eventual blog that I’m hoping will have some insights into how he creates his stuff.

That’s it for now. Stuff to do. I have a light switch that’s been malfunctioning. I took it apart and it looks like someone tried to make a broken switch work with some shoddy wiring and electrical tape. We’ll see if I can remedy that today… Everyone wish me luck that I don’t fry myself or burn the place down ;)

Why?

Why do people continually spam my comments? People, I moderate this shit. It will never, ever, see publication on my site. Stop wasting all of our time!

Comments

You know, I don’t often get comments on my posts.  So when I do, there’s a certain excitement that comes with it.  I mean, I sometimes joke about how few people see this blog, but seriously, my hit count is the shits.

But back to my original point….

So today, after writing my entry on the Wii, I get 3 comments on it.  I think, “Wow, how come the sudden interest?”  So the first comment is clearly an ad to another website.  He didn’t comment on the post, instead it was like he was posting how I made an interesting comment today and then an excerpt of the blog entry.  Dude, if you want me to add your comment, write an entirely original comment, don’t spoon feed my own post back to me.

Then, the second one sounds kind of nice.  How they found my site on technorati and that he liked my posts and was adding me to his rss feeds.  This made me feel kind of good, except the third and final comment was from someone different, only it was a word for word copy of the previous comment.  So I look at which websites they represent.  Oh yeah, business blogs.  Looking to fish out some more links to your site boys?  If so, next time write an orignal post for each of your sites and I’ll consider authorising them.

Really, why do people insult us bloggers by posting such obvious spam?  Do you think I’m so desperate to show some comment hits that I’ll just authorise anything?   Or are you hoping that I don’t moderate and I just let any shit whatsoever to go up?  Yeah, I tried that route once.  Got nothing but ads for sex toys.  Not this time kiddies….

So really, to all the spammers, don’t comment.  Because I do read them all, I visit all the sites that your comment links to, and if it looks like spam, your comment, like the 3 today, will be deleted.
