BOTD – On A Whole New Level

For my Blog of the Day today, I return to a personal blog. Let’s face it, they are infinitely interesting. Every human has a story to tell, and the joy of blogs is that now we can tell it and the world can listen! Today’s featured blog is On A Whole New Level.

It is a BBW personal diary, or as she puts it in her subtitle, Diary of a Mad Black Fat Woman.

I had a great time at this blog. Funny, insightful, full of some really good writing, it gave me some good laughs, a few thoughtful pauses, and jusy generally made me feel like I was reading the rants and thoughts of a friend. This blog is so accessible, and the author’s confidence in herself is inspiring! Her most recent blog entry, entitled “Guy’s Rules” had me laughing out loud, and gave me the strong desire to post it over on my site. Instead though, I’ll refer you over to On A Whole New Level so you can appreciate this great blog for yourself!

BOTD – A Softer World

Okay, I know this is a bit of a fudge, but hey, it’s my site, so just sit down nicely and accept it, okay? Besides, this one is totally worth it!

Today, I’m featuring one of my favourite webcomics, A Softer World.

Now, the main focus of this site is the comic strip at the top, but the creators do blog underneath the strip, so it’s not that huge a stretch. But like I said, this site is so worth it. Primarily, A Softer World usually consists of 3 paneled comic strips that use photographs and an omnipotent author who either narates, or offers their two cents on a topic. Always funny, usual hysterical, these things never get old.

Go check out their site. It is so worth it!

BOTD – Just a Girl in short shorts talking about whatever

Yesterday’s featured blog was Landon Porter.com. Landon left me a nice comment and was kind enough to add me to his links on his site. So I decided to jump from his site and see what other sites had given him reason to link to them. Through this, I found my blog for today, Just a Girl in short shorts talking about whatever.

Now I confess, when I read the title of the site, I was a little apprehensive about what I would find. I mean, Landon doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to have vapid links on his site, so I took a shot. What I found was most amazing; an intelligent, well informed, and well argued blog that addresses everything from politics to the over active “politically correct” movements.

I’m wondering if the author of the blog meant for this very jump to conclusion that the blog would be the vapid ramblings of some blonde who was too good looking for her own good, thank you very much. Sometimes we want to be under-estimated, if only so our prey doesn’t suspect what’s happening until they’re half swallowed.

While being in Canada I can’t say I’m facing the same political parties as Becky, I recognized some similar values. Becky is a lesbian, and much of her political musings are along the status of Gays in America (which just got set back in the previous election. Funny how everyone pats themselves on the back about how progressive they are because they elected a man of colour, while meanwhile 4 states outlawed gay marriage and at least one outlawed adoption by gay couples). While I’m straight, I do believe that homosexual couples should get married, and I see nothing wrong with a gay couple adopting. As I see it, with divorce rates and number of child abuse cases, us heterosexuals have no right to claim rights to child rearing and marriage. In fact, I think we should pass the torch to our gay brothers and sisters cause we downright screwed both up! But I digress…

If you want some good political views to chew on, go check out Just a Girl in short shorts talking about whatever.

BOTD – Landon Porter.com

So right now, I’m choosing my Blogs of the Day from visiting links from the previous blog of the day. Okay, that makes little sense. Let’s put it this way, yesterday’s blog of the day was Jody Donnelly.com. Well, from Jody’s page I linked over to the site that will be today’s blog of the day,
Landon Porter.com.

The actual title of Landon’s blog is “Playing With Consciousness,” which I have to say really appeals to me for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’ve always had a fondness for the mystic, and this title just hits me there… Or maybe I’m just envious I didn’t think of it first. I mean, really, The Lousy Poet, what the hell was I thinking? Oh yeah, right, that my poetry sucked. I’m so good at self loathing ;)

Anyway, back on topic. Landon writes beautifully, and fills his blog with amazing visual images. They are not always his own work, but they reveal someone with a deep appreciation for the visual medium. We have similar tastes, as I’ve liked all the works I’ve seen on his blog.

His writing is existential, searching, probing his own spiritual self. It inspires me to write more on my own blog, as opposed to the constant drone of Words of the Day and Literary Quotes. Landon’s blog demonstrates another aspect of the blog, that of internal contemplation.

It’s truly worth the visit. So go check out Playing With Consciousness.

BOTD – Jody Donnelly.com

So today for my Blog of the Day, I am featuring Jody Donnelly.com

I found this site after perusing my blog of the day that I posted yesterday. As it turns out, Ms Donnelly gave an award to Chenee, and I decided to visit her site. At first, my stiff, puritanical upbringing caused Jody’s site to feel abrasive. She is very open, very succinct, and no topic is taboo. I think after spending some time on her blog, I know more about her sex life and menstruel cycles than I do my closest friends! Is that a bad thing? I can’t say I’m entirely sure. But I do appreciate dead, open, honesty on blogs, and that is surely what you get at Jody Donnelly.com.

Jody’s a writer by trade, and it shows through her blog entries. The writing is engaging, entertaining, and whether you agree with her or not, you can’t help but become entrenched in her blog posts.

So open your mind, stroll through the life of another human being, and visit Jody Donnelly.com.

BOTD – The epitome of invincibility & confidence

I’ve been pretty negligent lately in getting a blog of the day posted. While finding words and quotes to post each day is relatively easy, it takes some time to find a blog that I want to write about, capture a screenshot, and then write a halfway thoughtful article on the site and why it’s worth visiting. The blogosphere is so vast, sometimes the noise is deafening. I really want to start seeing sites that inspire me.

With that in mind, I’m talking today about the epitome of invincibility and confidence, a personal blog by a blogger in the Philippines named Chenee. So many blogs are filled with obvious paid posts (as much as I hate to admit, my own has often been guilty of the same offense) it is refreshing to see a blog that seems very personal and intimate. There’s also some fun to be had at this blog, with pictures of the “true” Hotel California (LOL!), and lots of other personal anecdotes.

Chenee also has movie reviews, song lyrics, and random thoughts that she peppers with (literally) colourful words! I really enjoyed this blog and linked out to some others that I will most likely feature here eventually. Please go and check out the epitome of invincibility and confidence.

BOTD – Book Stove

Today’s blog of the day isn’t exactly a blog, but close enough. Besides, it’s a book site, so I could hardly turn it down. The site in question is Book Stove.

The site’s cool factor is that it takes submissions from visitors. So, if you have a great book review or an essay about literature, you can freely post it on the site. Pretty cool if you’re looking to get some exposure for your booky ideas!

The only downfall to this is that some of the articles are bogus. I don’t know how much quality control there is on the site, but overall, I really liked the concept, and there were some really good articles. Check it out. I might even post over there now that I’ve found it! :)

BOTD – News Company

My usual blog of the day is a personal one, but I found this site so useful, I had to recommend it. News Company is a site that provides, quick, summarised news stories that help keep you informed without having to read pages upon pages for each story. If you’re searching for health news, economy news or even entertainment news, this site has it all. I found one article about Robbie Williams communing with aliens through his tattoos to be quite enlightening. I simply must go get an eye of Horus tattooed on me right away! LOL!

In all seriousness though, it’s a crazy, busy world. We don’t often have time to read through an entire newspaper. So a site like News Company is very handy indeed. The other thing is that since the articles are short and to the point, you don’t get all the noise of the journalists opinion. I find that often distracting in overly long and bloated articles typical of newspapers. So do yourself a favour and check this one out and bookmark it to keep up to date.

BOTD – Hot Diggidy Blog Diggidy, What You Do To Me

Today’s featured blog returns to one of my favourite types of blogs, the personal bog. Hot-diggidy blog-diggidy is bright, bold, and a lot of fun. The writing is engaging, and, in a post that made me want to run and hold my kids tight, heartbreaking. The blogger, Joanna, seems very warm and genuine, something hard to find in the all too often barren landscapes of the net. She’s an American blogger in Michigan, who sent out impassioned pleas for people to get out and vote on November 4 (which, now that it’s all said and done, are you happy with the result Joanna? Just curious *wink*). So drop by her blog and enjoy!
