Querying Dos and Don’ts – From Allison Winn Scotch
It takes me an inordinate amount of time to work my way through magazines. While I can digest an engaging book within a day or two, it usually takes me several sit-downs to manuevre my way through a magazine. Such was the case with the edition of Writer’s Digest that I picked up several weeks ago (I think it was brand new on the shelf at the time and it say to only display to June 19th, so I guess there’s a new one out now…).
One of the articles I just read Tuesday night, in the wee, quiet hours at work, was about developing a platform. To over-simplify the point of the article, it’s about getting noticed. One of the sections listed a couple of writer websites to check out, in order to demonstrate the author of the articlel’s point. This, I know it seems a long time getting to the point, led me to the website of author Allison Winn Scotch. Now I admit, I know nothing of her writing; I don’t know if I would be even the least bit tempted to sit and read one of her books. Her blog, however, had some immediately useful insight.
Perhaps one the most daunting aspects of being a writer is sending out queries to an agent. To help with this, Allison has written a great article on her blog about Querying Dos and Don’ts.
If you find yourself at that stage in your writing career, do yourself a favour and check it out.
